Windsurfing Experiences
I got started windsurfing when I was twelve and was signed up to a taster course to get an idea of sailing, kayaking, raft building and windsurfing. After this I did sailing for a year, before switching to windsurfing, which I’ve now done for 2 years, alongside zone squad for the regional team.
For me, windsurfing has had many benefits, being a fun way to meet new people, exercise, and just generally enjoy myself. Alongside this it’s really helped me become more mentally resilient, as a core aspect of windsurfing is just going at it, and trying again, you’ll never land a carve gybe (a type of turn where you have to sink the back of the board to turn as tightly as possible) on your first try!
If you want to get started windsurfing or sailing, then simply look up online for a nearby sailing club, and go down and ask about lessons, as most clubs run RYA courses, starting with basics at level 1, and getting progressively more advanced as you go up the levels, finishing at level 4 alongside additional specialist courses.
